How We're Helping

Civitans are dedicated to improving their communities through helping others.  On the international level, Civitan funds the Civitan International Research Center, a center for research and treatment of developmental disibilities.  On the local level, Civitans are involved in a variety of projects to help residents of our community.

The DeColores Civitan club meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 

Tequila's restaurant (948 Main Ave) at 12:00p.m.

Civitan was founded in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1917.  Its founder and first president was Dr. Courtney W. Shropshire, a prominent Birningham physician.

Civitan International is a worldwide community service organization of men, women and teenagers in 24 countries on four continents joining together to perform community service projects.

Civitan provides opportunities for personal and professional growth through teamwork.

Civitan emphasizes helping people with developmental disabilities.  However, Civitan clubs perform a variety of service projects that address the unique needs of their community.

Civitan International world headquarters is located in Birmingham, Alabama, and provides numerous support services to clubs.

Civitan's most recognizable fund-raising program is the Civitan Candy Box Project.  The project is serviced by volunteers, and all proceeds benefit people with disabilities.  We have several candy box locations around town.
